Natural and healthy looks are in fashion...think delectable cosmetic colours such as nude pinks, peaches, and corals.
Makeup trends
What are the makeup trends for the coming season? Says renowned image advisor Eve Roth Lindsay of Savvy Style and colour me beautiful HK: "The eyes have it this Spring 2006! The fashion look is all about being pretty, feminine, sexy, and natural. Think delectable cosmetic colours such as nude pinks, peaches, and corals. Glittering metallic eyes in gold, silver, bronze, and mercury create a little shimmer. Lips are softly tinted in pretty angelic shades with cream lipsticks, then gently glossed over in sweet sheer shades or brightened up with clear reds and deep glosses. Groomed brows frame the eyes. Add a little sun-kissed glow to your skin by using light-deflecting foundations and a light touch of bronzer to complete the look."

Eve offers more advice: "Natural and healthy looks are in fashion, so over-powdered skin is out. Likewise, shimmer is in and matte looks are out. If you want colourful, smoky eyes, try blue or green shades rather than black or grey. Whatever your ethnicity, you need to apply colour according to the shape of your eye, and you need to match your natural colouring. There are certain colours that will look good on you and certain colours that won't. But if you like blue or pink, there's sure to be a shade of blue or pink that's perfect for you."

Skincare from your fridge
It's fun and inexpensive to make your own facial creams and masks from ingredients in your refrigerator. However, advises Ms Ceri Silk, you still need to consider your skin type and condition. Here are three simple recipes:

Egg Yolk & Honey Facial Mask (for dry skin)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon yoghurt

Instruction:

  • Mix all ingredients together well.
Cucumber & Honey Face Mask (for sensitive or delicate skin)

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 large cucumber (peeled and seeded)
  • 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 tablespoon runny honey
  • About 8 teaspoons finely powdered oats

Instruction:

  • Place the peeled and seeded cucumber in a small food processor and process until liquefied with small cucumber chunks, about 3 minutes.
  • Add the whipping cream and honey and process until smooth, with small cucumber chunks.
  • Add the oats and process further until a paste-like mixture is formed. (If the cucumber is especially watery, you may need to add more oats to get a paste-like texture.)

Honey Facial Scrub (for oily skin)

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon skim milk powder
  • 1 teaspoon runny honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh squeezed lemon juice

Instruction:

  • Mix the skim milk powder and honey (if your honey is stiff, try melting it in the microwave for just a few seconds).
  • Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice. Mix well.

Instruction for use:

  • Wet your face, then warm a large dollop of the product between your palms.
  • Apply to face and neck, using gentle motions and avoiding the eye area.
  • Leave on for 10-15 minutes.
  • Rinse away with warm water, massaging your skin very gently, not pulling or tugging (you may need to rinse a few times).
  • Follow with toner and moisturizer.
